====PDF Downloads in Firefox====
+
Last updated: {{REVISIONMONTH}}-{{REVISIONDAY2}}-{{REVISIONYEAR}}
-
Status: Cause being researched
+
-
Workaround: Identified – download 'PDF Download'  plug-in for firefox - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/636/ to overcome this issue.
+
-
====Issue : Space in file name for attachments in Mail and Discussions====
+
[[Resolved Known Issues]] As issues are resolved, they are moved to this area.
-
Status: Problem reported to developers
+
-
Workaround: Identified – use – or _ instead of spaces
+
-
====Issue: Turning point roster export in IE====
+
= Sakai =
-
Being researched to see if an IE setting can be tweaked to prevent truncating file names and extensions.
+
-
Update - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/316431 issue reported to vendor as per Mark’s request
+
-
Workaround: Use Firefox
+
-
====Issue: Turning point import does not work the same way as it did with Blackboard====
+
== General ==
-
Workaround: Use the .csv file generated by Turning point from “session reports” tab in Powerpoint, Turning Point and import the session file into Sakai. This is the only workaround as this is a vendor provided code.
+
-
====Issue: T&Q edit published and attempted quiz====
+
====MediaSite Tool Pointing to Wrong Site====
-
Fix soon to be tested and promoted to production, DO NOT use 'remove' this will reset all submissions.
+
*''System'': Sakai
-
====Issue: CC from Sakai landing in Spam folders====
+
*''Problem'': All courses created up to this point for Summer A/C/B and Fall 2014 have the MediaSite tool pointing to a Spring 2013 instance of MCB2000 and the tool is not, by default, hidden, so students are accessing these videos.
-
Being tested for additional details and develop instructions on how to white list mail.
+
*''Workaround'': Instructors should hide the tool if they are not using it, or change the address to point to their own MediaSite videos if they are.
 +
*''Status'': Corrected for all courses built from this time forward.

====Issue: Turnitin reports not generated for some users====
+
==== Skin Selector Tool ====
-
Works only for word docs currently. Being tested for duplication and analyzing characteristics of user submissions
+
*''System'': Sakai
-
Workaround: ask user who did not get a report generated to resubmit their paper
+
*''Problem'': Some course sites may now have a “Skin Selector” tool showing up on the tools menu. This tool was removed from previous builds but seems to have reemerged and sites that have it enabled in their tool list will continue to have it until it is removed.  The tool is non-functional at this point so it will not impact the skin selection for the course.
 +
*''Workaround'': The tool can simply be removed by performing the following within the Course Site:
 +
# Site Info > Page Order
 +
# Click the red “X” next to the tool
 +
# Click OK
 +
# Click Save
 +
# Refresh the course site to ensure the tool has been successfully removed

====Issue: T&Q inputs null in feedback when using the markup text (old quick create)====
+
==== Using selective release in Resources adversely affects Site Stats ====
-
Workaround: Use firefox plugin https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/tag/replace - PS: additional testing to be done to make sure we are comfortable with this.
+
*''System'': Sakai
-
Update – Oct 5th – Does not show in feedback as null when Question/Selection level feedback is enabled
+
*''Problem'': When using selective release criteria (e.g. "Show this item only if the following condition is met") in the Resources tool, statistics and usernames in Site Stats become unreliable. Most commonly, this manifests as numbers changing with each page load of Site Stats.
 +
*''Workaround'': None.
 +
*''Status'': Under investigation.

====Issue: Import in T&Q does not work and could lead to corrupt userid====
+
==== Page anchors in the e-Learning system do not work within Firefox ====
-
Issue being looked into in the community and to be included in future upgrades.
+
*''System'': Sakai
-
Workaround: Use the Markup text option to create quiz. If users get an error when attempting to create question pool or access a question pool please report user to LSS staff a manual process has been identified but will take some time to be implemented,
+
*''Problem'': Links internal to a page, commonly known as "page anchors", do not work in Firefox. Rather than the intended behavior of jumping to the appropriate anchor. The page will remain exactly where it was before.
 +
*''Workaround'': Use another web browser, such as Internet Explorer or Google Chrome.
 +
*''Status'': This issue centers on a Firefox bug and not an e-Learning bug.

====Issue: Webdav in Mac Snow Leopard (Leopard works fine) and Windows 7 does not work
+
==== Importing sites with many items in Lessons can interfere with importing course ====
-
Workaround : use Bitkinex for Windows 7 http://www.bitkinex.com/ for Mac Snow Leopard use Goliath http://www.webdav.org/goliath/
+
*''System'': Sakai
 +
*''Problem'': In courses with large numbers of individual sections and items (150+) in Lessons, importing course data into another course site can sometimes fail. Given that the failure occurs at different points in the import process, it can appear to users that files are randomly being imported over and randomly being skipped.
 +
*''Workaround'': Contact Learning Support Services staff for help if you end up in this situation. We can take steps to duplicate your existing course as needed. In addition, consider creating your content in the new Learning Modules tool. This tool uses the existing Resources tool for file storage rather than it's own file manager, and it seems to respond better to larger sets of items.
 +
*''Status'': Our developers are working on a migration path from Lessons to Learning Modules with the intent of eventually phasing out the Lessons tool. As such, fixes for this issue are unlikely.

====Issue: users getting 404 error message when the login to Sakai due to dangling realm.====
+
==== With larger numbers of items, the Lessons tool fails to load. ====
-
Root cause still being explored
+
*''System'': Sakai
-
Workaround: users can use https://elearning2.courses.ufl.edu/portal/site/~GLUSERNAME  Issue can be reported to HD/LSS staff and can be fixed manually but may take time
+
*''Problem'': In courses with large numbers of individual sections and items (150+), the Lessons tool becomes slower and sometimes will timeout before loading.
 +
*''Workaround'': Create your content in the new Learning Modules tool. This tool uses the existing Resources tool for file storage rather than it's own file manager, and it seems to respond better to larger sets of items.

====Issue: Users seeing a different My workspace than majority====
+
==== Can’t edit section content in Lessons ====
-
Workaround: Issue can be reported to HD/LSS staff and can be fixed manually but may take time
+
*''System'': Sakai
 +
*''Problem'': If Lessons content has been copied from a previous semester, there are problems editing the content.  Sometimes there is an error message.  Sometimes it will allow you to add a new content section and sometimes it will not.  The problems are varied.
 +
*''Workaround'': Use the "duplicate module" icon to the far right of the module to make a fresh copy.  The fresh copy is editable.  Then you may delete or archive the original module.
 +
*''Status'': Under development. Slated for a Summer 2014 release.

====Issue: Syllabus redirects does not work consistently====
+
==== Can’t add/change Profile Picture ====
-
Workaround: Link to a Syllabus document or use inbuilt syllabus creator do not use Multiple files and redirects in Syllabus tool
+
*''System'': Sakai
 +
*''Problem'': In My Workspace > Profile, some users can’t add a profile picture. They can add an album of pictures to their workspace, but they can not set any of these pictures as their default profile image, nor can they upload a new profile image.
 +
*''Workaround'': None.
 +
*''Status'': Our developers are investigating integrating pictures from Gator 1 cards into the e-Learning system. Fixes for this issue are unlikely.

*** Workaround: Do not delete any course or project site that has users or design that you plan to use for a regular course. Not sure if we need to talk about this or otherwise?
+
*''System'': Sakai
 +
* ''Problem:'' When viewing videos using video streaming/storage (not Mediasite) from video.ufl.edu on Mac OS X. Videos can fail to load or immediately give an end-of-content error.
 +
* ''Workaround 1:'' If you have Boot Camp installed, boot to Windows and watch the videos from that OS. Alternately, you can go to a campus computer lab to use a Windows machine or use any other Windows computer that you have access to.
-
====Issue: Missing unpublished icon for unpublished course====
+
* ''Workaround 2:'' Some students have been able to work around the error by installing/reinstalling [http://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html#download VLC Media Player].
-
Cause identified fix being researched
+
-
Workaround: Go to my workspace< Worksite< look at the status here for all sites that are published or unpublished to determine if they are published or otherwise.

==== Problems opening large PDFs in IE/Firefox using Adobe Reader Plugin ====
 +
*''System'': Sakai
 +
*''Problem'': Users have received errors when attempting to open large PDFs using the Adobe Reader Plugin in Internet Explorer.
 +
*''Workaround 1'': Users can use Firefox or Chrome rather than IE
 +
*''Workaround 2'': Users can right click on the PDF link and "Save target as"
 +
*''Workaround 3'': Open Adobe Reader/Acrobat and navigate to Edit > Preferences > Internet. Here, make sure to deselect the option that says "Display PDF in Browser." Click OK to save your changes. Next, open Internet Explorer and navigate to Tools > Manage Add-ons (in newer versions of IE, the Tools menu is a gear icon). Select Adobe Reader and click on the "Disable" button. This will force users to open PDFs in Adobe Reader and not their browser.

==== Messages to Gatorlink Email from e-Learning Captured by UF Spam Filter (Rare) ====
 +
*''System'': Sakai
 +
*''Problem'': There are many places in e-Learning where email notifications can be sent to users from within the system. Some of these emails are captured in the UF spam filter.
 +
*''Workaround'': Check the "Junk E-Mail" folder in your email account and mark any posts from e-Learning as "not spam."

====Issue: T&Q - preview timer will not be displayed, if attempted as student you will not allow you to get a grade====
+
== Assessments ==
-
Workaround: To see timer work use the View site as student, to get a grade one can test with TA hopefully LOA1 will help in the future.
+
==== Blank questions in a question pool can cause the system to fail to automatically grade assessments. ====
 +
*''System'': Sakai
 +
*''Problem'': An incorrectly formatted question (e.g. one with no question text at all) can cause the automatic grading to cease in an assessment.
 +
*''Workaround'': Delete the faulty question. The assessment should automatically grade the students submissions as intended.
 +
*''Status'': Working as intended.

====Issue: If a Quiz that uses random questions from a question pool is delivered with settings < Navigations < Random access to questions from a Table of Contents. (There are "Next" and "Previous" buttons on each page for navigation.) < This displays the table of contents and also displays if they got the right or wrong answer (from the score displayed next to the question 1/1) . This DOES NOT manifest itself this way when Radom questions from question pool is used.====
+
==== Can't View Student Submissions in IE Browser ====
-
Workaround: If using random questions from a question pool in T&Q settings < Navigations < Linear access to questions with NO return to previous pages. (There are only "Next" buttons to go forward. There is NO Table of Contents page.) If you display 1 question at a time then students cannot go back to make changes to a question they had attempted already. You may choose to display all questions in a single page or all parts to display in a single page (please contact LSS staff if you wish to make this change for a quiz that has already been set)

Update Oct 6th – Happens only if Immediate feedback is enabled

====Issue: Entity picker – when linking discussions to lessons or  topics show only for creator of topic====
+
==== Difficult to see Student Answers in Fill-in-the-Blank Questions ====
-
Workaround: Creator has to link the discussion if using entity picker
+
*''System'': Sakai
 +
*''Problem'': When using Fill-in-the-Blank question types, student answers are difficult to view.  When viewing the students' submissions, there is a fixed field for the answer.  If the student's answer is longer than the fixed field, it is difficult to see the student's complete answer.
 +
*''Workaround'': The only way to view the complete answer is to place the cursor in the field and then move the mouse to the right.  The answer will scroll in the field.

*''Status'': Under investigation.

====Issue: Groups in Sakai - auto groups with the sections – does not populate, and if groups are added with roles Instructor or TA and group members completes process but later on un-enrolls members from the group. Workaround:  use user id’s listed below to add members to the groups

====Issue: comments in assignments comments area throws in html tag====

== Assignments ==
-
Workaround: use attachments or post in inline submissions area

==== When Grading, An 'VelocityViewServlet' Appears ====
 +
*''System'': Sakai
 +
*''Problem'': In Assignments, when grading, the following error message is thrown: VelocityViewServlet : Error processing a template for path ''
 +
Invocation of method 'getGradeDisplay' in class org.sakaiproject.assignment.impl.BaseAssignmentService$BaseAssignmentSubmission threw exception java.lang.NullPointerException at /vm/assignment/chef_assignments_instructor_list_submissions.vm[line 659, column 93].
 +
*''Workaround'': A proposed workaround by Narasi Ramachandran is to create a temporary group in Site Info, placing all Students minus the problematic student (this is the Student in which the error occurs on within the Assignments > Assignment > Grade page) in the group. Once this is done, the Instructor can then go back into the assignment and filter the view to the specific group and see all of the grades. Additionally, if a new column is added in GB and the assignment is then modified to point to that GB item, the grades are sent.
 +
*''Status'': Under investigation.

====Issue: Gradebook 2 VS Gradebook====
+
==== When Grading, Not All Students Visible ====
-
a) terminology when using % Gradebook lists that as relative weight while gradebook lists it as points but calculates relative weights.
+
*''System'': Sakai
-
b) If one wants to change from points to % after they have entered some grades best to do that in Gradebook than Gradebook 2 as gradebook 2 will want one to delete all old points and then enter new points however gradebook will allow you to do so without getting rid of old points. But will always recommend they download the gradebook first for safe keeping.
+
*''Problem'': In Assignments, when grading, not all students are visible. This appears to be caused by the app node cache not properly updating student data.
-
c) If using percentage all columns should total up to the total of 100% if only a few columns are entered then the columns will accounts for a greater %’s mathematically it is correct because you only may have a total of 10% of the total 100% accounted.
+
*''Workaround'': In ''Site Info'', click the ''Update Participants'' button to refresh student data.  You may also consider clearing your browser's cache and cookies and restarting the browser.
 +
*''Status'': Under investigation.

*''System'': Sakai
 +
*''Problem'': In group assignments, if a group does not submit the assignment, the Download All feature in grading only downloads to the point of the group that did not submit.

====Issue: Assignments allows for only 1 decimal point – issue reported to ICS====
+
==== 'Submit As Student' Submitting As Instructor ====
-
Workaround: Create a column in the gradebook and associate the assignment grade to existing column in gradebook. This will allow you to edit the grade to 2 decimal points in the GB (not within the assignment)
+
*''System'': Sakai
 +
*''Problem'': In some course sites, the "Submit As Student" functionality is causing submissions to appear as submitted by the instructor rather than the student.
 +
*''Workaround'': Contact LSS support staff at 392-4357, ext 3, for further assistance.

====Issue : No spell check in HTML editor (Firefox will be grayed out, IE will shows icon but will prompt for a IE plugin)====
+
==== Discrepancy between decimal points in Gradebooks and in Assignments ====
 +
*''System'': Sakai
 +
*''Problem'': When grading with decimals, Assignments and Gradebooks have different guidelines.  Assignments will only allow for one decimal place.  Gradebooks will allow for 2.  If a column is created in either Gradebook, and the Assignment is connected to that Gradebook column, I may enter a grade with 2 decimal places into the Gradebook, but it will round that grade to 1 decimal place to comply with the Assignment restriction of only 1 decimal place.  But, when you view the grade in the Assignments tool, you will see an error message that reads, "Please grade with only 1 decimal place."  Even though only 1 decimal place shows. You may disregard this message as it has no impact on the grade or the Assignment.
 +
*''Workaround'': Use only 1 decimal place.
 +
*''Status'': Not under investigation as this is expected behavior under the circumstances of the different requirements.

==== Turnitin in Assignments Breaks if Default Settings are Changed ====
 +
*''System'': Sakai
 +
*''Problem'': When using Turnitin within Assignments, a set of default settings appear. Please use only the following highlighted settings to get a report, using any other combinations on the highlighted settings will cause issues and not generate a report.
 +
[[File:Turnitin_settings.png]]
-
====Issue: - Assessments tool does not display well in IE testing under progress, works fine in Firefox. If all questions as displayed or parts of questions are displayed on a single page they do not load. Assessment DOEST NOT load at all if using IE 7 or 8 on Windows 7 (vista not tested) works fine on XP.====
+
On Occasion, you may see other default settings come up.  If you see that, check the boxes that aren't checked and proceed. If you create an Assignment with settings other than the default, reports will not be generated and the settings cannot be set back to the default, so there is no way to fix the Assignment once it is broken. You will often see an error message when you save the Assignment:"!Alert: The assignment was saved, but Turnitin information was unable to be updated.  Please try saving again." This message does not necessarily mean your Assignment is broken.  As long as you have the Turnitin Repository Settings highlighted in the image above, your Assignment is probably fine. An exception MIGHT be if you change the Open Date, Due Date, or Accept Until Date in a published Assignment.  These dates do communicate with Turnitin and so could cause the problem.
 +
*''Workaround'': You may submit all student papers directly to Turnitin.  The papers can be downloaded in a .zip file from the Assignments in e-Learning and the .zip file uploaded to Turnitin.  If you've never used the Turnitin website, go to http://turnitin.com and type in your email address and click "retrieve password."  An email will be sent to you with instructions on how to login.  Once you login, create a course and an assignment.  Follow the instructions to upload a .zip file to the assignment.  It usually takes about 10 minutes for the reports to generate.
 +
*''Status'': After extensive dialogue with the Turnitin support team, it is apparent that Turnitin is not going to fix the problem. The good news is that Turnitin is developing a new LTI integration coming available in the next few months that could resolve the problem, but we won’t know for sure until we are able to see the new tool.

====GB import: 2 options Import gradebook item from spreadsheet, Import grades====
+
==== Certain Symbols in Gradebook Column Titles Prevent Column from Being Associated with Assignment ====
-
Import gradebook item from spreadsheet - needs student id, grade column and CANNOT import into a specific column (new column needed), does not need ([100]) spreadsheet header should match column header, has additional steps like load into docking station < then import
+
*''System'': Sakai
-
Import grades – needs student ID (username, userid) blank column, grade column [100] CAN import into an existing column, less steps < import .csv or .excel and you are done
+
*''Problem'': When creating an Assignment, there is a choice to have the Assignment create a Gradebook column, or to associate the Assignment to an existing Gradebook column.  If you are associating an Assignment to an existing column, that column cannot have & < or > (ampersand, less than, or greater than) symbols in the title.  Those columns work fine in the Gradebook, but do not associate with an Assignment.
 +
*''Workaround'': Change the column title to remove those symbols, or have the Assignment create a Gradebook column.
 +
*''Status'': Under Investigation.

==== Instructor Comments Cannot be Removed ====

 +
*''Problem'': When Grading a student submission, once an instructor has entered comments into the instructor Summary Comments box, they cannot be removed. They can be edited, but cannot be removed.  The Assignment will not save a blank Instructor Summary Comments box and the comments will return.
 +
*''Workaround'': Remove all the comments and replace them with a period.

====Students missing attachments in Assignments+ T&Q==== The instructor will be able to see the attachments, however students do not. This happens in courses that have been imported from previous terms. Issue has been reported to the developers and they are working on this issue.
+
== Assignment 2 (pilot) ==
-
Update – Oct 7th Cause for this has been narrowed to permissions of the Resources tool. If students do not have read access to the root this seems to interfere with this. One should not remove read privilege for students at root.
+
==== Can’t delete assignments in Assignment 2 ====
-
Workaround: Use the Editor to present for the assignment tool to present the content/instructions. For T&Q save quizzes to question pools and create your quiz in the new shell/site.

Key highlights of 1.2.3 Mid fall build –

==Chat Room==
-
#Unpublished icon is now displayed
+
===Chat Room users can't chat in real time===
-
#Published/attempted quizzes can be edited and auto re-grade possible for some quizzes (if a quiz uses a question pool the edit has to be made to the question pool question and it did not flow into the quiz however stand-alone questions can be edited and regarded)
+
*''Problem'': In the Chat Room tool, most users can't chat with one another in real time. Messages from other users don't appear until a user refreshes the chat window.
-
#The confusion caused by adding users with their email ID has been removed, the “Add Participants” only allows one to add users based on their UFID’s or gatorlink usernames
+
*''Workaround'': Most Chat Room users must refresh their browser in order to view new posts made by other participants.  New posts do not appear until the user refreshes.  The best workaround at this point is to use the "Messages" tool, a much more feature-rich alternative.

==== Student View Isn't Accurate when Dates Have Been Set if Student View was Used Prior to Setting Dates ====
 +
*''System'': Sakai

==== View Full Description Disappearing ====

*''Problem'': Under a discussion topic, when one clicks on 'View Full Description,' the text does not stay on the screen. This happens when the text was copied from Word and pasted into the text editor within Discussions without using the 'Paste from Word' icon.

*''Workaround'': Make sure the full description of the text has no formatting in it. If the text is copied from Word, when pasting make sure to use 'Paste from Word' instead of pasting directly. Or copy the text already in the Full Description, paste it in Notepad (this way the formatting gets removed), then paste that text back in the Full Description.

 +
*''Workaround'': Don't select the 'Do not allow submissions after the Due Date' option. This is a good option for tests that have a time limit, as the time limit would prevent the student from having the test open for an extended period of time.  Tests will be marked "late" if submitted after the Due Date. If you need to use the 'Do not allow submissions after the Due Date' option, give students a "begin no later than . . ." message using Mail or Announcements: "The test is due at 9pm.  Begin no later than 8:25pm.  Do not begin later than that as it will result in the inability to submit the test if the Due Date has passed."

==== Tests and Quizzes Stuck "In Progress" ====
 +
*''System'': Sakai
 +
*''Problem'': Under certain circumstances, tests can become stuck “In Progress” and never submit. This could happen if the student closed the browser or lost internet connection without hitting submit and never went back to finish. In your list of Published/Inactive tests, if there are any numbers in the “In Progress” column, those tests are stuck. [https://lss.at.ufl.edu/include/images/in-progress.png View screen shot] Prior to August 10, checking the "Automatic Submission" box submitted most tests stuck in progress after the due date passed.  In the updated version, this "Automatic Submission" process is not working.
 +
*''Workaround'': Currently there is no workaround. Remind students that they must SUBMIT the test and not simply close the browser.  Tell them to make sure they see the successful submission message before exiting e-Learning.
 +
*''Status'': Under investigation.

==== Tests and Quizzes Creates Extra Gradebook Columns Upon Republish (occasional) ====
 +
*''System'': Sakai
 +
*''Problem'': When an instructor unpublishes a published test, and then republishes it, sometimes there is an additional column created in the gradebook.  This breaks the test, preventing students from taking the test from that point forward.  Students receive a message stating that their test cannot be submitted because grades can't be sent to gradebook. The extra column cannot be deleted.
 +
*''Workaround'': Call e-Learning Support Services at 352.392.4357x3 for assistance.

*''Status'': Under investigation
 +

 +
==== Tests and Quizzes Problems in Question Pools Larger Than 100 Questions ====
 +
*''System'': Sakai
 +
*''Problem'': Assessments that pull from Question Pools containing more than 100 questions are showing erratic behavior.
 +
*''Workaround'': Use smaller number of questions per pool and/or sub pools.
 +
*''Status'': Under investigation.
 +

 +
==== Multiple Correct Questions and Partial Credit ====
 +
*''System'': Sakai
 +
*''Problem'': Multiple Correct Questions by default take away points for wrong answers.  There is no option to change this. While its not exactly a "bug," it is something that should be addressed.
 +
*''Workaround'': If you do not want students to lose points for wrong answers, manually give points for students if they lost points for wrong answers.

*''Status'': Under investigation

Turnitin in Assignments Breaks if Default Settings are Changed

Turnitin settings.png
