Resolved Known Issues As issues are resolved, they are moved to this area.
General
Page anchors in the e-Learning system do not work within Firefox
- Problem: Links internal to a page, commonly known as "page anchors", do not work in Firefox. Rather than the intended behavior of jumping to the appropriate anchor. The page will remain exactly where it was before.
- Workaround: Use another web browser, such as Internet Explorer or Google Chrome.
- Status: This issue centers on a Firefox bug and not an e-Learning bug.

Importing sites with many items in Lessons can interfere with importing course
- Problem: In courses with large numbers of individual sections and items (150+) in Lessons, importing course data into another course site can sometimes fail. Given that the failure occurs at different points in the import process, it can appear to users that files are randomly being imported over and randomly being skipped.
- Workaround: Contact Learning Support Services staff for help if you end up in this situation. We can take steps to duplicate your existing course as needed. In addition, consider creating your content in the new Learning Modules tool. This tool uses the existing Resources tool for file storage rather than it's own file manager, and it seems to respond better to larger sets of items.
- Status: Our developers are working on a migration path from Lessons to Learning Modules with the intent of eventually phasing out the Lessons tool. As such, fixes for this issue are unlikely.

With larger numbers of items, the Lessons tool fails to load.
- Problem: In courses with large numbers of individual sections and items (150+), the Lessons tool becomes slower and sometimes will timeout before loading.
- Workaround: Create your content in the new Learning Modules tool.

Can’t edit section content in Lessons
- Problem: If Lessons content has been copied from a previous semester, there are problems editing the content. Sometimes there is an error message. Sometimes it will allow you to add a new content section and sometimes it will not. The problems are varied.
- Workaround: Use the "duplicate module" icon to the far right of the module to make a fresh copy. The fresh copy is editable. Then you may delete or archive the original module.
- Status: Under development. Slated for a Summer 2014 release.

Can’t add/change Profile Picture
- Problem: In My Workspace > Profile, some users can’t add a profile picture. They can add an album of pictures to their workspace, but they can not set any of these pictures as their default profile image, nor can they upload a new profile image.
- Workaround: None.
- Status: Our developers are investigating integrating pictures from Gator 1 cards into the e-Learning system. Fixes for this issue are unlikely.

Video Playback Errors on Mac OS X Using Video Streaming/Storage
- Problem: When viewing videos using video streaming/storage (not Mediasite) from video.ufl.edu on Mac OS X. Videos can fail to load or immediately give an end-of-content error.
- Workaround 1: If you have Boot Camp installed, boot to Windows and watch the videos from that OS. Alternately, you can go to a campus computer lab to use a Windows machine or use any other Windows computer that you have access to.
- Workaround 2: Some students have been able to work around the error by installing/reinstalling VLC Media Player.
- Workaround 3: Attempt the following procedure:
- Download the ASX file by right-clicking (or CTRL-clicking) on the link on your Sakai page.
- Open the file in Text Editor.
- Copy the URL within the ASX file.
- Paste the URL into your web browser's address bar.
Problems opening large PDFs in IE/Firefox using Adobe Reader Plugin
- Problem: Users have received errors when attempting to open large PDFs using the Adobe Reader Plugin in Internet Explorer.
- Workaround 1: Users can use Firefox or Chrome rather than IE
- Workaround 2: Users can right click on the PDF link and "Save target as"
- Workaround 3: Open Adobe Reader/Acrobat and navigate to Edit > Preferences > Internet. Here, make sure to deselect the option that says "Display PDF in Browser." Click OK to save your changes. Next, open Internet Explorer and navigate to Tools > Manage Add-ons (in newer versions of IE, the Tools menu is a gear icon). Select Adobe Reader and click on the "Disable" button. This will force users to open PDFs in Adobe Reader and not their browser. --Rayne 11:29, 30 October 2012 (EDT)
Messages to Gatorlink Email from e-Learning Captured by UF Spam Filter (Rare)
- Problem: There are many places in e-Learning where email notifications can be sent to users from within the system. Some of these emails are captured in the UF spam filter.
- Workaround: Check the "Junk E-Mail" folder in your email account and mark any posts from e-Learning as "not spam."
- Status: Not a bug.
--Kate 15:26, 26 March 2014 (EDT)
Assessments
Blank questions in a question pool can cause the system to fail to automatically grade assessments.
- Problem: An incorrectly formatted question (e.g. one with no question text at all) can cause the automatic grading to cease in an assessment.
- Workaround: Delete the faulty question. The assessment should automatically grade the students submissions as intended.
- Status: Working as intended.

Once an Assessment has been "Test-Driven" the "View Site as: Student" will display as "completed."
- Problem: Once an Assessment has been "Test-Driven" the "View Site as: Student" will display as "completed."
- Workaround: None
- Status: Under Investigation

Can't View Student Submissions in IE Browser
- Problem: When accessing student submissions in IE browser, the browser freezes and requires computer restart to resume.
- Workaround: Use Firefox, Chrome, or Safari browsers.
- Status: Under Investigation

Difficult to see Student Answers in Fill-in-the-Blank Questions
- Problem: When using Fill-in-the-Blank question types, student answers are difficult to view. When viewing the students' submissions, there is a fixed field for the answer. If the student's answer is longer than the fixed field, it is difficult to see the student's complete answer.
- Workaround: The only way to view the complete answer is to place the cursor in the field and then move the mouse to the right. The answer will scroll in the field.
- Status: Under investigation.

Assignments
Discrepancy between decimal points in Gradebooks and in Assignments
- Problem: When grading with decimals, Assignments and Gradebooks have different guidelines. Assignments will only allow for one decimal place. Gradebooks will allow for 2. If a column is created in either Gradebook, and the Assignment is connected to that Gradebook column, I may enter a grade with 2 decimal places into the Gradebook, but it will round that grade to 1 decimal place to comply with the Assignment restriction of only 1 decimal place. But, when you view the grade in the Assignments tool, you will see an error message that reads, "Please grade with only 1 decimal place." Even though only 1 decimal place shows. You may disregard this message as it has no impact on the grade or the Assignment.
- Workaround: Use only 1 decimal place.
- Status: Not under investigation as this is expected behavior under the circumstances of the different requirements.
Turnitin in Assignments Breaks if Default Settings are Changed
- Problem: When using Turnitin within Assignments, a set of default settings appear. Please use only the following highlighted settings to get a report, using any other combinations on the highlighted settings will cause issues and not generate a report.
On Occasion, you may see other default settings come up. If you see that, check the boxes that aren't checked and proceed. If you create an Assignment with settings other than the default, reports will not be generated and the settings cannot be set back to the default, so there is no way to fix the Assignment once it is broken. You will often see an error message when you save the Assignment:"!Alert: The assignment was saved, but Turnitin information was unable to be updated. Please try saving again." This message does not necessarily mean your Assignment is broken. As long as you have the Turnitin Repository Settings highlighted in the image above, your Assignment is probably fine. An exception MIGHT be if you change the Open Date, Due Date, or Accept Until Date in a published Assignment. These dates do communicate with Turnitin and so could cause the problem.
- Workaround: You may submit all student papers directly to Turnitin. The papers can be downloaded in a .zip file from the Assignments in e-Learning and the .zip file uploaded to Turnitin. If you've never used the Turnitin website, go to http://turnitin.com and type in your email address and click "retrieve password." An email will be sent to you with instructions on how to login. Once you login, create a course and an assignment. Follow the instructions to upload a .zip file to the assignment. It usually takes about 10 minutes for the reports to generate.
- Status: After extensive dialogue with the Turnitin support team, it is apparent that Turnitin is not going to fix the problem. The good news is that Turnitin is developing a new LTI integration coming available in the next few months that could resolve the problem, but we won’t know for sure until we are able to see the new tool.

Certain Symbols in Gradebook Column Titles Prevent Column from Being Associated with Assignment
- Problem: When creating an Assignment, there is a choice to have the Assignment create a Gradebook column, or to associate the Assignment to an existing Gradebook column. If you are associating an Assignment to an existing column, that column cannot have & < or > (ampersand, less than, or greater than) symbols in the title. Those columns work fine in the Gradebook, but do not associate with an Assignment.
- Workaround: Change the column title to remove those symbols, or have the Assignment create a Gradebook column.
- Status: Under Investigation.

Instructor Comments Cannot be Removed
- Problem: When Grading a student submission, once an instructor has entered comments into the instructor Summary Comments box, they cannot be removed. They can be edited, but cannot be removed. The Assignment will not save a blank Instructor Summary Comments box and the comments will return.
- Workaround: Remove all the comments and replace them with a period.
- Status: Under Investigation

Assignment 2 (pilot)
Can’t delete assignments in Assignment 2
- Problem: Currently, there is not a way to delete assignments in Assignment 2.
- Workaround: There is no workaround at this time.
- Status: Under investigation.
--Vieger 2 May 2013 (EDT)
Calendar date selector not working in Assignment 2
- Problem: In Assignment 2, the calendar date selector is not functioning. When you select a date on the calendar, the date does not update accordingly.
- Workaround: The workaround is to enter the date manually.
- Status: Under investigation.

Content Editor
Content Editor in Lessons Can't Edit Source Code in IE
- Problem: When using IE browser, the Content Editor presents problems if you try to edit the Source Code. Once the "Source" link is clicked, the editor becomes unusable.
- Workaround: The "Full Screen" option of the Content Editor does not present this problem. If you need to edit the Source code, use Full Screen in IE or a different browser.
- Status: Under investigation --Jolaine 15:42, 28 June 2012 (EDT)
Spell Check Not Available in Content Editor
- Problem: If you are using Firefox, the spell-check icon will be grayed out. IE will shows icon but will prompt for a IE plugin.
- Workaround: Compose the content in MS Word and use the spell-checker there. Cut and paste from Word into the Content Editor using the "Paste from Word" icon.
- Status: After the August 9th planned upgrade (Ariel), when using IE, the spell-checker plug-in will automatically pop up for installation. After that is installed, the spell-checker will work in IE. Still not available in other browsers.--Jolaine 09:28, 29 July 2011 (EDT)
Discussions
Can't Limit Discussions to Groups if Students Have Viewed Them
- Problem: Students may be able to access and participate in groups they do not belong to. This happens if the groups permissions were put into effect after making all topics available to the site participants. User who visited topics prior to the group restrictions will continue to have access to those topics.
- Workaround: Make sure group permissions are set for group topics first prior to releasing these topics to the students.
- Status: Under investigation.

Student View Isn't Accurate when Dates Have Been Set if Student View was Used Prior to Setting Dates
- Problem: In a problem related to the previous Known Issue, if a "user," in this case the Student View" has accessed a Discussion already, setting permissions does not prevent that user from accessing that Discussion in the future. So, if you view the Discussion using "Student View," then you set available dates for the Discussion and then view it with Student View again, it will appear that students can access the Discussion even though they can't.
- Workaround: You may call us at 352.392.4357x3 and ask a staff person to check the view as a real student.
- Status: Under investigation

View Full Description Disappearing
- Problem: Under a discussion topic, when one clicks on 'View Full Description,' the text does not stay on the screen. This happens when the text was copied from Word and pasted into the text editor within Discussions without using the 'Paste from Word' icon.
- Workaround: Make sure the full description of the text has no formatting in it. If the text is copied from Word, when pasting make sure to use 'Paste from Word' instead of pasting directly. Or copy the text already in the Full Description, paste it in Notepad (this way the formatting gets removed), then paste that text back in the Full Description.
- Status: This is unfortunately not a bug in the e-Learning system but is instead a bug in the way browsers handle text pasted from Microsoft Word and other word processors.

Gradebook and/or Gradebook 2
Adding multiple new items in Gradebook with Internet Explorer
- Problem: In Gradebook, when using Internet Explorer verisons 8,9, or 10, users are unable to add more than one new item at a time to the Gradebook (add item > add another item). Additionally, we have noticed that some actions with Internet Explorer version 10 can take a few seconds longer than Firefox or Chrome.
- Workaround: Use Firefox or Chrome.

Cannot Import Gradebook 2 From Previous Semester
- Problem: In Gradebook 2, when you import from one semester to the next, items from tools such as Assignments and Tests & Quizzes will also be added to Gradebook 2, yet are not linked to these tools. While Assignments can be associated with the gradebook entry, there is no way to do this in Tests & Quizzes.
- Workaround: Our current recommendation is for users to continue to import Gradebook from a prior semester, rather than Gradebook 2.
- Status: Under investigation.
--Vieger 2 May 2013 (EDT)
Extra Credit issue when using No Categories in Gradebook 2
- Problem: In Gradebook 2, when you are using no categories, you are able to edit only a single item as extra credit. If you attempt to edit another item, the extra credit option is disabled. You can still add new items as extra credit, however you can't edit them to remove the extra credit option once this setting has been applied.
- Workaround: The workaround is to use Categories in Gradebook 2 if you need multiple extra credit items.
- Status: Under investigation.
--Vieger 5 March 2013 (EDT)
CE Student Role does not appear in All Grades View in Gradebook
- Problem: In Gradebook, if an instructor navigates to All Grades > View All Sections/Groups, and the instructor limits the view by a group containing the CE Student role, the CE Students do not appear in the Gradebook.
- Workaround: The workaround for this issue is to View All Sections/Groups to view CE Students in the course, instead of limiting the view to a group containing CE Students. Another workaround is to view the group with CE Students in Gradebook 2. Here, the students will appear with no issues.
- Status: Under investigation --Rayne 30 January 2013 (EDT)
Student List Disappears in Gradebook 2
- Problem: In Gradebook 2, when an instructor imports the Gradebook tool into a new course, and weighted categories are selected, the student list in Gradebook 2 disappears. The instructor will also see an error message saying, "this gradebook is not correctly weighted." This can also happen if the Gradebook is correctly weighted, but at least one of the categories is "weighted by points" instead of "weighted equally."
- Workaround: This issue can be resolved by LSS staff. Please call us at 352.392.4357x3.
- Status: Under investigation. --Rayne 18 December 2012 (EDT)
Server 500 Error in Gradebook 2
- Problem: You receive an internal server 500 error when attempting to make changes in Gradebook 2.
- Workaround: Please call e-Learning Support Services at (352) 392-4357 Option 3 and we can help you fix this issue.
- Status: Under investigation. --Rayne 4:45, 10 October 2012 (EDT)
Columns "Disappear" if not included in grade in Gradebook 2
- Problem: Beginning in Summer A, Gradebook 2 has a new feature that will not allow a column that is "not included in grade" to be added to a category that is included in the grade. If you try to move a column that is not included in the grade into a category that is included in the grade, the column will disappear.
- Workaround: Make sure any column that you want to move into a category has the "include in grade" box checked. If you have experienced the "disappearing" column problem, you can go to the Gradebook tool and the column will be there. If you edit the column in Gradebook to be included in the grade, it will reappear in Gradebook 2.
- Status: Under investigation.
UFID and Section Columns Must be Removed Prior to File Import
- Problem: An update was recently made to the system that adds the UFID column and the Section number column to the file when Gradebook is downloaded. This was done to provide the information for grade submission to Grade-A-Gator. The problem occurs if you try to import that file back into Gradebook. The imported file will convert the UFID to the student name and the import will fail.
- Workaround: Delete the UFID column and the Section column before importing the file.
- Status: Under investigation.
Gradebook Won't Export if Roster is Very Large (1000 students)
- Problem: If you have a large number of students, neither Gradebook can be exported.
- Workaround: Change display settings to show all students in the Gradebook. Once the Gradebook displays all the students perform the export using the table below as a guide.
- Status: Under investigation.

Can't Change from Points to Percentages Once Point Data has Been Entered in Gradebook 2
- Problem: In Gradebook 2, if you have set up the gradebook to use points and you have already entered points in columns, you cannot change it to grade using percentages. If you try, you will get an error message.
- Workaround: If you have to change from points to percentages in the middle of the semester, use Gradebook rather than Gradebook 2. Once you change Gradebook to percentages, the changes will be reflected in Gradebook 2.
- Status: Under investigation.
Learning Module (pilot)
Issue with Assignment Release criteria logic
- Problem: When using assignments with Learning modules, and there is a required item prior to releasing the assignment, students cannot complete the assignment after completing the required task. Instead, they get an error, "Alert: You are not allowed to view the assignment." This does not happen with Discussions or Test & Quizzes, however.
- Workaround: Do not require that students complete prerequisite materials before completing assignments linked to Lesson Builder.
- Status: Under investigation.
--Narasi 2 May 2013 (EDT)
Can’t import Learning Module from one semester to the next
- Problem: There is no way to import Learning Module into a new semester. When you attempt to import from Site Info, nothing imports.
- Workaround: There is no workaround at this time.
- Status: Under investigation.

Polls
Calendar date selector not working in Polls
- Problem: In Polls, the calendar date selector is not functioning. Nothing happens when you click on the calendar icon.
- Workaround: The workaround is to enter the date manually.
- Status: Under investigation.

Syllabus
Syllabus View Truncated When Displayed in Chrome
- Problem: Currently, when you link to a PDF or other document, only a small portion of the document appears in Chrome.
- Workaround: Use Firefox.
- Status: Under investigation.

Publicly Viewable Option Doesn't Work in Syllabus Tool
- Problem: When creating a Syllabus, there is the option to make the syllabus "publicly viewable" which means that you should be able to send a link to the syllabus to people outside the UF system and allow them to see the file. This is not working. Currently, people are still asked to authenticate into the UF system in order to see the file.
- Workaround: Place the syllabus file in the Resources and make it publicly viewable. The URL captured from the Resources (Actions > Edit Details > Web address (URL)) site does work as publicly viewable. If you still want the file to be available for students in the Syllabus tool, use the "redirect" option in the Syllabus tool to point to the file in Resources. If you use "redirect" the Syllabus file needs to be an HTML file.
- Status: Under investigation.

Test & Quizzes
In rare occasions, an assessment won't send items to the gradebook.
- Problem: In rare occasions, an assessment in Tests and Quizzes will not visibly send the grade to either Gradebook or Gradebook 2. This is caused due to the way that the two gradebooks interact and is more likely to occur in courses where instructors use both gradebooks.
- Workaround: Open settings for the assessment. Change the gradebook settings to "Don't send to Gradebook". Save the settings. Re-open settings and re-enable "Send grades to gradebook."
- Special Note: Please choose one of the gradebook tools and use only that tool. If you do, this error should not occur.

Audio Question Type Does Not Work
- Problem: In Tests & Quizzes, the Audio Question type does not work for students due to a java update. Adjusting java settings, may allow the students to record their answer, but then the test will not submit.
- Workaround: There is no known workaround.
- Status: Under investigation

File Upload Question Type Does Not Work
- Problem: In Tests & Quizzes, the File Upload question type does not work for students. Instructor can create the question, but when students try to attach their files, they receive an error report.
- Workaround: Use the Assignment tool for that particular question, or have the student email their attachment.
- Status: Under investigation

Calculated questions does not work well with RichText Editor
- Problem: In Tests & Quizzes, when creating a new calculated question, the RichText editor will not be able to add many special characters.
- Workaround: Please use the plain text editor to create your question.
- Status: Under investigation.

Calculated questions missing extract variables button in question pools
- Problem: In Tests & Quizzes, when creating a new calculated question in a question pool, the button to extract variables is missing.
- Workaround: The workaround is to click “save,” then to reopen the question and edit it. The variables and formulas will be extracted when you click save. Users can also create a calculated question when creating a new assessment. If the question needs to be added to a pool, the user can select the appropriate pool in “Assign to Question Pool.”
- Status: Under investigation.

Student with open assessment can submit after due date
- Problem: The setting for late submissions accepted states that late submissions will only be allowed for students who do not have a prior submission. Currently, with this option checked and a due date, students can submit a second submission after the due date even if they have a previous submission.
- Workaround: Do not allow late submissions.
- Status: Under investigation.

Timer Issue in Tests & Quizzes
- Problem: In Tests & Quizzes, if the test has been assigned a username and password, the timer will begin from the moment they click the name of the test. This doesn't usually pose a problem, but if there is confusion with the username and password, or if the student must then install the Lockdown browser, the timer is running during this time and will use some of the student's time allotted for the test.
- Workaround: In Tests & Quizzes, if you are going to use the Lockdown browser, we encourage you to set up a "demo" quiz that isn't worth any points or provide the link for the LockDown Browser download in the Quiz introduction (LockDown Browser Download Link). This will allow students to download LockDown Browser before their actual quiz, thereby preventing the issue of them losing time in their quiz after clicking "Begin Assessment."
- Status: Under investigation. --Rayne 11:14, 5 October 2012 (EDT)
Tests and Quizzes Stuck "In Progress"
- Problem: Under certain circumstances, tests can become stuck “In Progress” and never submit. This could happen if the student closed the browser or lost internet connection without hitting submit and never went back to finish. In your list of Published/Inactive tests, if there are any numbers in the “In Progress” column, those tests are stuck. View screen shot Prior to August 10, checking the "Automatic Submission" box submitted most tests stuck in progress after the due date passed. In the updated version, this "Automatic Submission" process is not working.
- Workaround: Currently there is no workaround. Remind students that they must SUBMIT the test and not simply close the browser. Tell them to make sure they see the successful submission message before exiting e-Learning.
- Status: Under investigation. --Jolaine 16:37, 20 September 2011 (EDT)
Tests and Quizzes Creates Extra Gradebook Columns Upon Republish (occasional)
- Problem: When an instructor unpublishes a published test, and then republishes it, sometimes there is an additional column created in the gradebook. This breaks the test, preventing students from taking the test from that point forward. Students receive a message stating that their test cannot be submitted because grades can't be sent to gradebook. The extra column cannot be deleted.
- Workaround: Call e-Learning Support Services at 352.392.4357x3 for assistance.
- Status: Under investigation
Tests and Quizzes Problems in Question Pools Larger Than 100 Questions
- Problem: Assessments that pull from Question Pools containing more than 100 questions are showing erratic behavior.
- Workaround: Use smaller number of questions per pool and/or sub pools.
- Status: Under investigation.
Multiple Correct Questions and Partial Credit
- Problem: Multiple Correct Questions by default take away points for wrong answers. There is no option to change this. While its not exactly a "bug," it is something that should be addressed.
- Workaround: If you do not want students to lose points for wrong answers, manually give points for students if they lost points for wrong answers.
- Status: Under investigation
Site Info
Uploading CSV file with groups on a PC
- Problem: When uploading a group CSV file to Site Info, the file is not accepted. The user gets an error saying the file is not readable. This only occurs on a PC, not a Mac.
- Workaround: Currently, the only workaround is to either upload the file using a Mac, or to create the groups manually.
- Status: Under investigation.

System remembers old group CSV file
- Problem: When uploading a group CSV file to Site Info, the system remembers this file, even if there is an error with it. When you upload a new or updated file, it remembers the old one.
- Workaround: Currently, the workaround is to logout and log back into e-Learning. The system will no longer remember the old file.
- Status: Under investigation.
