Sporadic appearance of emails without recipient list, cannot reply
- System: Canvas
- Problem: In Canvas inbox, users report that they occasionally see messages that have no list of recipients at the top. Those messages cannot be replied to. An error message is generated.
- Workaround:Do not reply to the message, but start a fresh message to the sender.
- Status: Under investigation by Canvas Engineers.

People with a large number of enrollments cannot use the More Courses option
- System: Canvas
- Problem: If users are enrolled in a large number of courses, they will see a severe lag in the time it takes to be able to use the "More courses" option when trying to send an email. It can take up to 5 minutes for all of the enrollments to load.
- Workaround:If possible, reduce enrollments. You can also wait for the enrollments to load, or use the courses drop down in the left hand corner to specify the course before you attempt to send a message.
- Status: Under investigation by Canvas Engineers.

Assignments
Group Assignments Broken by Deleting Group Set
- System: Canvas
- Problem: Instructor created a Group Set and an Assignment that was assigned to that group set. Later, the group set was deleted and recreated with the same name. The Assignment still appeared to be correct because the Group Set was named the same thing, but when students submitted, the Assignment treated every student as his/her own group. There should have been an alert when deleting the original Group Set that there was an Assignment attached and that the new Group Set would have to be re-attached.
- Workaround: Make sure that Group Sets assigned to an Assignment or Discussion are not deleted, or if they are, that the Discussion or Assignment gets re-attached to the new Group Set.
- Status: Under investigation by Canvas Engineers.

Differentiated Assignments
Speedgrader
- Tool: Crocodoc
- Problem: When an instructor uses Crocodoc annotations for a supported assignment submission type (primarily Word documents and PDFs), the Firefox browser frequently removes the last annotated comment when updating the score field in SpeedGrader. This behavior is a Crocodoc-specific limitation within Firefox that cannot be resolved by Crocodoc at this time. To warn about the effects of Firefox and Crocodoc annotations, Canvas displays a warning banner that says “Warning: Crocodoc has limitations when used in Firefox. Comments will not always be saved.” To avoid losing any annotations, instructors may choose to use another browser when providing Crocodoc annotated feedback, or try clicking the screen before navigating to another student.
- Workaround: Use another browser when providing Crocodoc annotated feedback, or try clicking the screen before navigating to another student.
- Status: Under investigation by Canvas engineers.

Differentiated assignment due dates
- System: Canvas
- Problem: When using differentiated assignments, the due date shows as "Due Multiple Due Dates" instead of the due date for the specific student.
- Workaround: Due dates can be viewed on the Assignment page before entering Speedgrader.
- Status: Under investigation by the Canvas Engineers

Speedgrader Times out
- System: Canvas
- Problem: In courses of more than 500 students, Speedgrader times out and client gets the error message “Oops that last request didn't work out.”
- Workaround: Go to Gradebook, filter by section (if there is more than one section associated with the course), then choose Speedgrader from the Gradebook. This should cut down on the number of students pulled into Speedgrader at once which should allow Speedgrader to load properly.

Some students can't see annotations in Croc-o-doc when the assignment is given to groups
- System: Canvas
- Problem: If an assignment is given to groups, some students are not able to see the teacher's annotations in Croc-o-doc.
- Workaround:The instructor can download the annotated document and attach it to the assignment to return to the student.

Turnitin
- System: Canvas
- Problem: When a Turnitin report shows an exact match to another student paper in the Turnitin database, the instructor is instructed to click a link to request permission to view the original paper. This link does nothing at this point, and there is no way to see the original paper.
- Workaround: None
- Status: Under investigation by Canvas Engineers. Canvas Engineers report back this this issue cannot be resolved.

Conferences
Conferences with lengthy descriptions broken in Chrome browser
- System: Canvas
- Problem: If a conference is created with a lengthy description, the "start" button disappears preventing anyone from joining the conference The edit option is also gone so that the instructor cannot remove the description.
- Workaround: Keep the descriptions short (a few words) or don't use one at all. If you already have the problem, use FF browser to edit the description.

Preview Of Large PDF and PPSX Not Displaying
- System: Canvas
- Problem: Large PDF and PPSX files are not displaying in the preview tool. Users may encounter the error message "document could not be converted, please download it instead."
- Workaround: Download the files to view them. Or compress (zip) the PDF file, then transfer it to the Canvas site and have it auto-expand. The file will open properly.

Grades
Gradebook displays incorrectly for courses with differentiated assignments after exporting grades with "mark ungraded as zero" chosen
- System: Canvas
- Problem: If a course has differentiated assignments so that some students aren't required to complete some assignments, AND "mark ungraded as zero" is chose, AND the grades are exported, the gradebook then displays incorrectly to the instructor. After the export, the gradebook is counting those differentiated assignments that should not count against the student as zero, dropping the students' grades. NOTE: Students view of their grades is not affected.
- Workaround: Clear cache and cookies in your browser to reset the gradebook to it's correct view
- Status: Under investigation by Canvas Engineers.

Quizzes
Quiz Index Page Round up Total Number of Points
- System: Canvas
- Problem: If a quiz has a total number of points as decimal, for example, 3.5, that number gets rounded up (4 in this case) on the Quiz index page. (The quiz total point is reported and calculated correctly in the gradebook though.)
- Workaround: No workaround at this time.

Auto-Submitted Quiz When Student Is Not Viewing Page Not Populating Score In Grades
- System: Canvas
- Problem: When quizzes that are automatically submitted while the student is not viewing the page, the submission isn't fully created/generated in the SpeedGrader or Gradebook. Grades will reflect a score of "0". The actual grade will not appear until either the student goes back to view their submission, or until it's viewed by the Teacher in the "Moderate Quiz" page.
- Workaround: Students should ensure to click "Submit" for their quizzes, or go back to view their quiz soon after it is auto-submitted. If the Teacher has any indication that a student may have taken the Quiz but it is not showing in the Gradebook, they should go to the Quiz, click on "Moderate This Quiz" on the right, then click the student's name to view the submission.
- Status: Under investigation by Canvas Engineers.

Special Characters in Fill in the Blank Questions
- System: Canvas
- Problem: In Fill in the Blank questions, if there are any special characters (%$', etc) AND the answer is more than one word (Newton's Law), the student's answer will be marked incorrect, even if it matches exactly the correct answer given by the instructor.
- Workaround: If your answer requires special characters, use the "Multiple Blank" Fill in the Blank type questions. So the example of Newton's Law would display as two separate blanks "Newton's" and "Law" instead of one blank with "Newton's Law."

Disappearing Students in "Assign to" Section of Practice Quizzes
- System: Canvas
- Problem: In practice quizzes, students in the "Assign to" field may disappear (if the instructor is assigning to individual students) resulting in practice quizzes assigned to no one. Usually the students will disappear about five minutes after saving the settings of the practice quiz.
- Workaround: The first workaround is to assign the practice quiz to everyone within the course. The second workaround is to change the quiz type to a "Graded Quiz" and then assign the quiz to the students taking the quiz.
- Status: Under investigation by Canvas Engineers.
