Assignments
Speedgrader
- System: Canvas
- Problem: Students may encounter an informational text when submitting a document that reads similar to "Box and Crocodoc are working together...sorry for any inconvenience." Your submission will be viewable in the Box viewer instead of Crocodoc, however, this appears to be transparent for users.
- Workaround: The Box viewer is a fail-over reader for when documents are not able to be viewed within Crocodoc behind the scenes within Canvas. Canvas support has suggested that the documents may eventually display in Crocodoc.
- Status: Informational Only.

Turnitin
- System: Canvas
- Problem: When a Turnitin report shows an exact match to another student paper in the Turnitin database, the instructor is instructed to click a link to request permission to view the original paper. This link does nothing at this point, and there is no way to see the original paper.
- Workaround: None
- Status: Under investigation by Canvas Engineers.

Course
Dashboard
To-Do List Displays Items To Be Graded That Are Fully Graded
- System: Canvas
- Problem: On the Course Dashboard within Canvas, under the "To Do" list, items that have been fully graded continue to show.
- Workaround: Click on the "X" to hide those items from the To-Do list.
- Status: Issue reopened; Under investigation by Canvas Engineers.

Rich Content Editor
YouTube
- System: Canvas
- Problem: The YouTube embed feature (Canvas WYSIWYG editor) is not working. If you do a search, it comes up with a placeholder video, titled “device support”, which when played, shows the message:"YouTube is upgrading to a newer version, which is not supported by this device or app."(Links to an external site.)
- Workaround: Manually paste URL to YouTube video within text.
- Status: Under investigation by Canvas Engineers.

Files
Preview Of Large PDF and PPSX Not Displaying
- System: Canvas
- Problem: Large PDF and PPSX files are not displaying in the preview tool. Users may encounter the error message "document could not be converted, please download it instead."
- Workaround: Download the files to view them.
- Status: Under investigation by Canvas Engineers.

Imported File Structure Lost After Initial Deletion
- System: Canvas
- Problem: When attempting to copy exported course files into a new course, the file/folder structure did not remain intact. All file content imports correctly the first time it is imported; however, if the files are subsequently deleted from the course, and then re-imported, that is when they are loaded into an "Unfiled" folder. This is because Canvas is essentially un-deleting the files that were previously imported, and that had been disassociated with their assigned folder when they were deleted. Whenever files are un-deleted within the system, they are automatically added to an Unfiled folder to be manually moved to another folder if needed. While this is currently the expected behavior of the system, to move un-deleted files to an Unfiled folder, this can cause problems with Articulate files, HTML files, and related content that must be in the correct folder in order to work.
- Workaround: Manually move the files back into the correct file/folders structure.
- Status: Under investigation by Canvas Engineers.

Scroll Bars
- System: Canvas
- Problem: Scrollbars are not functional in a few views, in the "to" list in Mail for one example.
- Workaround: The only way to scroll is to use the scroll wheel on the mouse
- Status: A fix has been implemented by Canvas Engineers 9/27/14.

Notifications
Notifications Not Being Sent to E-mail
- System: Canvas
- Problem: Users Not Receiving Timely Notifications After Notifications Settings Modification
- Status: We have recently received information that it may take as much as one week (even days) for a change in Notifications Frequency to take place. Thus, if today you were to change your Notifications Frequency from Weekly to ASAP, the change would not take effect until sometime early next week. We are investigating this issue and will provide additional detail as we get more information.

Notifications Not Being Received via E-mail
- System: Canvas
- Problem: Users are not receiving e-mail notifications
- Workaround: Ensure that your e-mail address is verified. To do this, click on 'Settings' in upper-right. Within the "Email Addresses" section, ensure that your @ufl email address is blue. If your @ufl email address is grey and italicized, this means it is not verified. To verify, click the address and follow the prompts to verify it. Until this is done, you will not receive any e-mailed notifications.
- Status: Under investigation by Canvas Engineers.

View This Message In Conversations Link Not Working
- System: Canvas
- Problem: Within an e-mailed notification, when a user clicks on the "View this message in Conversations" link, the user is taken into Conversations but no conversation is selected. The links for going to the specific message in the inbox currently do not function as intended.
- Workaround: View conversations from within the Inbox.
- Status: Under investigation by Canvas Engineers.

Grades
Upload Multiple New Items In Large Enrollment Course Error
- System: Canvas
- Problem: In Grades, when utilizing 'Upload Scores' within large enrollment courses, with a CSV file that contains multiple (5+) new items, an error occurs or grades do not appear to populate completely.
- Workaround: Make smaller updates to Grades using the CSV file with 1-2 new items. Note: Uploaded grades will continue to populate in a matter of minutes but you must refresh the page to see this occurring.
- Status: Under investigation by Canvas Engineers.
--Dalyns 08:35, 07 February 2014 (EDT) 370973
Blank Screen When Attempting To Upload Scores In Large Courses
- System: Canvas
- Problem: In Grades, when utilizing 'Upload Scores' within large enrollment courses, after confirming your changes with 'Save Changes', the browser spins and then the page goes blank/white. This appears to be the case in all popular browsers.
- Workaround: Manually remove "gradebook_upload" from the URL to enter back into the course. Note: Uploaded grades will continue to populate in a matter of minutes but you must refresh the page to see this occurring.
- Status: Under investigation by Canvas Engineers.

Error When Using "Message Students Who..." In Large Enrollment Courses But Message Is Sent To Everyone
- System: Canvas
- Problem: When using "Message Students Who..." through Grades in a large enrollment course, an error occurs and it appears that the message was not sent; however, the message is sent to everyone in the course not just those who "have not submitted." etc.
- Workaround: None
- Status: Under investigation by Canvas Engineers.

Documentation Incorrect For Importing CSV Files
- System: Canvas
- Problem: When a user goes to upload a csv into the Gradebook and you select the help option "What should the CSV file look like?" on the upload pop-up, it takes you to an example image of what is required in the csv in order for it to be uploaded. The problem is this image is outdated. It contains a bubble right above "Section" that states "Optional, Ignored." This leads the user to believe that the section column is not required in the csv. But if they attempt to upload the csv without the section column they get an error and have to add that column.
- Workaround: Section is not optional and must be included. Required columns include: Student ID, SIS User ID, SIS Login ID, Section, Existing Assignment (###) OR A New Assignment (if you want to create a new one in the new file outside of Canvas).
- Status: A fix has been implemented by Canvas Engineers 10/30/14.

Modules
Linking Files From Files Into Modules
- System: Canvas
- Problem: Materials within locked Files folders are not viewable when attempting to add them to Modules.
- Workaround: Move the file to a folder that is visible when added to a module. Another option would be to add the file directly to the module if the files are on the computer. You can do this by selecting the + icon for the module, change the drop down to file, and then choosing the first option which is "New File." This will give you the option to upload a file into the module.
- Status: Under investigation by Canvas Engineers.
--Jen 14:02, 31 July 2014 (EDT) 641464
Module Progress By Student Not Displaying Progress
- System: Canvas
- Problem: Within the Module Progress by Student, the status seems to always show "none in progress" even when students have been making progress.
- Workaround: None currently. It should be noted that the progress window will show any modules that aren't locked as "in progress" in the right-hand side of the window, but a student can complete all of a module's required items without moving into the next module, so the left-hand column will show "none in progress".
- Status: Under investigation by Canvas Engineers.

Outcomes
Rubrics
Building Multiple Rubrics Outcomes Are Only Applied To First Rubric
- System: Canvas
- Problem: When creating more than one rubric at a time using the Rubric section, adding Outcomes will only add them to the previous rubric
- Workaround: Create the Rubrics one at a time.
- Status: Under investigation by Canvas Engineers.

People
Enrollments
- System: Canvas
- Problem: Students who DROP a course are still showing as being in the course (within Canvas) if they were added to a manually-created section prior to DROP. Currently, the DROP/ADD process runs against the registrar sections and updates those, however, it does not run against the manually-created sections that were created through myUFL.
- Workaround: Manually remove the students from the myUFL created sections. If you have large numbers of students or are unsure, please contact Learning Support Services at 352-392-4357 option 3 or e-mail us at learning-support@ufl.edu
- Status: UFIT is working on a fix.

Groups
Cannot drag students into groups to add them
- System: Canvas
- Problem: If there are lots of groups in a Group Set, the students can't be added to the ones lower down the list by the drag-and-drop method. Can only drag so far down the list and then it's like you "hit a block" and can't drag any further down.
- Workaround: Beside the student's name, click the + sign. The list of groups will appear. Click the group to which you want to add the student.
- Status: Instructure is aware of the problem and is working on a fix.
--Jolaine 15:34, 29 August 2014 (EDT)
Manually Assigning Students To Groups 'Unassigned Students' List Not Displaying Remainder
- System: Canvas
- Problem: With larger courses, moving students manually into groups creates a lag in the "Unassigned Students" list. The list appears to be refreshing (double arrows) once all visible students have been grouped, however, this process appears to hang. The title of the list denotes there are additional students that are unassigned, i.e. "Unassigned Students (37)", but this list never repopulates on its own.
- Workaround: You can refresh your browser page or you can navigate away from the group set page and then come back to it. Both options should prompt the display of any remainder students.
- Status: A fix has been implemented by Canvas Engineers 12/20/14.
--Jen 07:37, 14 October 2014 (EDT) 811696
Ungrouped Student Due To Section Drop
- System: Canvas
- Problem: If a student is enrolled in two different sections within a course and also a member of a group; if they are removed from one of the two sections, the student is also removed from the group.
- Workaround: Until this issue can be resolved, checked the Group memberships frequently to regroup ungrouped Students if you're moving students between sections and/or during periods of ADD/DROP.
- Status: Under investigation by Canvas Engineers.

Students Edit Group Discussions Despite Course Setting
- System: Canvas
- Problem: Students were able to edit their discussions in their groups after the course had been set to not allow for Students to be able to.
- Workaround: None currently available.
- Status: A fix has been implemented by Canvas Engineers 3/14/15.

Quizzes
Question Bank Not Synching Modifications
- System: Canvas
- Problem: In quizzes that are published but not yet open to students, when modifying a bank, the modifications are not reflected in the existing quiz.
- Workaround: Create a new quiz that links to the edited question bank.
- Status: A fix has been implemented by Canvas Engineers 3/18/15.

Quiz Log Auditing Ignores Quiz Settings
- System: Canvas
- Problem: This feature does not take into account any other quiz setting, such as allowing students to see their quiz responses and correct answers one time. If you do not want students to be able to see their answer choices from the quiz log, you may need to wait to enable Quiz Log Auditing until after the quiz has closed for all students, or modify the quiz Until date appropriately.
- Status: Currently under investigation by Canvas Engineers.

Reports That Quiz Answers Modified
- System: Canvas
- Problem: We've received some reports that quiz answers differ from those answers that were purportedly submitted. Please report any suspected cases to learning-support@ufl.edu with the course number, quiz/assignment, date/time, student, detailed description of the problem, and any available screenshots for further investigation with Instructure.
- Status: Currently under investigation.

Media Uploads Play Inconsistently
- System: Canvas
- Problem: We've had reports within specific quizzes where certain videos play and certain videos do not play; when they do not play, you can generally see the player, but it shows zero seconds of recorded data. This issue happens across Chrome, Firefox, IE(according to admin), Safari web browsers.
- Workaround: Suggested to keep trying to refresh, restart browser, use incognito mode, try different browsers until you finally are able to access each one.
- Status: Under investigation by Canvas Engineers.

Odd Point Values When Grading Quizzes
- System: Canvas
- Problem: When you have two question groups both pulling from the same question bank, but for different point values, this causes a situation where Canvas is giving the same question and getting confused with different results.
- Workaround: Discontinue administration of this quiz. Make a new quiz and if you really need to grab from the same pool of questions, make a second bank (that is a copy) so that each group can pull from different banks.
- Status: Fix deployed by Canvas 12/20
--Jen 09:38, 22 September 2014 (EDT) 730105
Auto-Submitted Quiz When Student Is Not Viewing Page Not Populating Score In Grades
- System: Canvas
- Problem: When quizzes that are automatically submitted while the student is not viewing the page, the submission isn't fully created/generated in the SpeedGrader or Gradebook. Grades will reflect a score of "0". The actual grade will not appear until either the student goes back to view their submission, or until it's viewed by the Teacher in the "Moderate Quiz" page.
- Workaround: Students should ensure to click "Submit" for their quizzes, or go back to view their quiz soon after it is auto-submitted. If the Teacher has any indication that a student may have taken the Quiz but it is not showing in the Gradebook, they should go to the Quiz, click on "Moderate This Quiz" on the right, then click the student's name to view the submission.
- Status: Under investigation by Canvas Engineers.

Quiz Points Showing as 9.99999999999999 instead of 10
- System: Canvas
- Problem: When viewing a quiz, the point value is displayed as 9.99999999999999 instead of 10. Upon editing of the quiz, the point value is displayed as 10. This is a known issue in Canvas that is due to the system not rounding correctly when it totals it up on the quizzes page.
- Workaround: None available. Students will still receive the correct percentage points when they take the quiz. This is a display bug.
- Status: Under investigation by Canvas Engineers.
--Jen 12:33, 22 July 2014 (EDT) 635202
MP3 Media Files In Quiz Not Converting
- System: Canvas
- Problem: MP3 files which are imported in batch to a course(such as an imported export file) do not correctly trigger a new conversion of the files in the course right away.
- Workaround: None currently available.
- Status: Under investigation by Canvas Engineers.
--Jen 14:28, 12 September 2014 (EDT) 717775
Number Of Questions Given Differ From Settings
- System: Canvas
- Problem: We have reports of one course, where on a quiz setup to give a 20 question quiz, a couple of students received 7 questions and the rest received 20 questions. In addition, it appears that seven test students and two real students started the quiz at the exact same time. Instructors, if you encounter this issue, please contact e-Learning Support Services at (352)392-4357 option 3 or by e-mail at learning-support@ufl.edu with so that we can work with the Canvas Engineers.
- Workaround: None currently. However, it is best practice to avoid editing question banks on live quizzes.
- Status: Under investigation by Canvas Engineers.

Youtube
- System: Canvas
- Problem: The YouTube embed feature (Canvas WYSIWYG editor) does not seem to be working. If you do a search, it comes up with a placeholder video, titled “device support”, which when played, shows the message:
“YouTube is upgrading to a newer version, which is not supported by this device or app.” https://youtube.com/devicesupport (Links to an external site.)
- Status: We are aware of an issue with the YouTube LTI tool which is causing the errors you are seeing. The problem is centered around updates that YouTube is making to their API's. Therefore our engineers are getting to work with updating our own API's so this functionality will be available again.
Media Comments Show As Converting
- System: Canvas
- Problem: Media comments within quizzes pulled from Question Banks display as being converted when a user attempts to play them, however, the comments never actually complete the conversion.
- Workaround: Instructors, if you encounter this issue, please contact e-Learning Support Services at (352)392-4357 option 3 or by e-mail at learning-support@ufl.edu with the URL to the specific media file in order to work with the Canvas Engineers to identify any issues with that file.
- Status: Under investigation by Canvas Engineers.

Roles
Designer Role is Unable to View Unpublished Content
- System: Canvas
- Problem: We've verified that folks in the Designer role are currently unable to view Unpublished course content. This is in direct relation to Canvas' work on permissions.
- Workaround: We suggest these folks use the Facilitator role. Canvas has suggested "For now, the only workaround is for designers or whoever may be setting up the course to immediately publish any assignments they are working on, as this will make them available for further updates."
- Status: Under investigation by Canvas engineers.

Android
Unable To Download Canvas App For Nook HD (Android 4.0.4) From PlayStore
- System: Canvas
- Problem: When using a Nook HD (Android 4.0.4) users are unable to download the Canvas app from the Play Store. Users receive an incompatibility error when attempting to download and are unable to install the app. According to the system specifics guide, the OS is compatible. The Nook HD does not have a camera, and the Canvas app requires permission to access a camera within the Android device. This is causing a point of contention.
- Workaround: Use mobile browser or desktop/laptop computer until this issue is resolved.
- Status: Under investigation by Canvas engineers.
