Inbox

Sporadic appearance of emails without recipient list, cannot reply

• System: Canvas
• Problem: In Canvas inbox, users report that they occasionally see messages that have no list of recipients at the top. Those messages cannot be replied to. An error message is generated.
• Workaround:Do not reply to the message, but start a fresh message to the sender.
• Status: Under investigation by Canvas Engineers.

People with a large number of enrollments cannot send mail to groups

• System: Canvas
• Problem: If users are enrolled in ~50 or more courses, they will see a severe lag in the time it takes to populate the list of groups when trying to send an email. If the person is enrolled in even more courses (>100), the page will time-out before the list loads, preventing the user from sending the mail message.
• Workaround:If possible, reduce enrollments. If not possible to reduce enrollments, you may communicate with a group by going into the group home page and using announcements.
• Status: Under investigation by Canvas Engineers.

People with a large number of enrollments cannot use the More Courses option

• System: Canvas
• Problem: If users are enrolled in a large number of courses, they will see a severe lag in the time it takes to be able to use the "More courses" option when trying to send an email. It can take up to 5 minutes for all of the enrollments to load.
• Workaround:If possible, reduce enrollments. You can also wait for the enrollments to load, or use the courses drop down in the left hand corner to specify the course before you attempt to send a message.

To-Do List

To-Do List Displays Items To Be Graded That Are Fully Graded

• System: Canvas
• Problem: On the Course Dashboard within Canvas, under the "To Do" list, items that have been fully graded continue to show.
• Workaround: Click on the "X" to hide those items from the To-Do list.
• Status: Under investigation by Canvas Engineers.

To-Do List Not Displaying All Items To Be Graded

• System: Canvas
• Problem: On the Course Dashboard within Canvas, under the "To Do" list, the list of items to be graded are incomplete.
• Workaround: Click on the "# More..." link below the list to expand the list beyond the default 5 items.
• Status: Under investigation by Canvas Engineers.

Differentiated Assignments

"Assign To" Field Not Populating Students Alphabetically

• System: Canvas
• Problem: Differentiated Assignments are displaying the first five students differently depending on the browser used. Within Chrome and Safari they are NOT listed in alphabetical order, within FF they are listing the first five in order.
• Workaround: None.
• Status: Under investigation by Canvas Engineers.

Speedgrader

Box and Crocodoc are working together

• System: Canvas
• Problem: Students may encounter an informational text when submitting a document that reads similar to "Box and Crocodoc are working together...sorry for any inconvenience." Your submission will be viewable in the Box viewer instead of Crocodoc, however, this appears to be transparent for users.
• Workaround: The Box viewer is a fail-over reader for when documents are not able to be viewed within Crocodoc behind the scenes within Canvas. Canvas support has suggested that the documents may eventually display in Crocodoc.
• Status: Informational Only.

Differentiated assignment due dates

• System: Canvas
• Problem: When using differentiated assignments, the due date shows as "Due Multiple Due Dates" instead of the due date for the specific student.
• Workaround: Due dates can be viewed on the Assignment page before entering Speedgrader.
• Status: Under investigation by the Canvas Engineers

Turnitin

• System: Canvas
• Problem: When a Turnitin report shows an exact match to another student paper in the Turnitin database, the instructor is instructed to click a link to request permission to view the original paper. This link does nothing at this point, and there is no way to see the original paper.
• Workaround: None
• Status: Under investigation by Canvas Engineers. Canvas Engineers report back this this issue cannot be resolved.

Rich Content Editor

• System: Canvas
• Problem: When inserting the ampersand, space, and other special characters, in to the HTML editor, when saving/switching back to the Rich Content Editor view, the characters display as escaped. i.e. &
• Workaround: Correct the escaped characters within the Rich Content Editor view and save.
• Status: Under investigation by Canvas Engineers.

Settings

Imported "Ends" Date affects Course Behavior

• System: Canvas
• Problem: When importing content from one course to another, the "Starts" date and the "Ends" date in the previous semester (found under "Settings) can carry over into the current semester. If left in place, an "Ends" date that is in the past is negatively impacting course behavior. Examples include quizzes wiping out student submissions, and being unable to send emails to the course participants.
• Workaround: Remove the "Ends" date or update it to a date in the future.
• Status: Under investigation by Canvas Engineers.

Preview Of Large PDF and PPSX Not Displaying

• System: Canvas
• Problem: Large PDF and PPSX files are not displaying in the preview tool. Users may encounter the error message "document could not be converted, please download it instead."
• Workaround: Download the files to view them. Or compress (zip) the PDF file, then transfer it to the Canvas site and have it auto-expand. The file will open properly.
• Status: Under investigation by Canvas Engineers.

Notifications

Notifications Not Being Sent to E-mail

• System: Canvas
• Problem: Users Not Receiving Timely Notifications After Notifications Settings Modification
• Workaround: We have recently received information that it may take as much as one week (even days) for a change in Notifications Frequency to take place. Thus, if today you were to change your Notifications Frequency from Weekly to ASAP, the change would not take effect until sometime early next week. We are investigating this issue and will provide additional detail as we get more information.

Notifications Not Being Received via E-mail

• System: Canvas
• Problem: Users are not receiving e-mail notifications
• Workaround: Ensure that your e-mail address is verified. To do this, click on 'Settings' in upper-right. Within the "Email Addresses" section, ensure that your @ufl email address is blue. If your @ufl email address is grey and italicized, this means it is not verified. To verify, click the address and follow the prompts to verify it. Until this is done, you will not receive any e-mailed notifications.

View This Message In Conversations Link Not Working

• System: Canvas
• Problem: Within an e-mailed notification, when a user clicks on the "View this message in Conversations" link, the user is taken into Conversations but no conversation is selected. The links for going to the specific message in the inbox currently do not function as intended.
• Workaround: View conversations from within the Inbox.
• Status: Under investigation by Canvas Engineers.

Gradebook disappears in Internet Explorer browser

• System: Canvas
• Problem: A white screen is displayed when trying to access gradebook in IE 10 and IE 11
• Workaround: Use Chrome, Firefox, or Safari

Error When Using "Message Students Who..." In Large Enrollment Courses But Message Is Sent To Everyone=

• System: Canvas
• Problem: When using "Message Students Who..." through Grades in a large enrollment course, an error occurs and it appears that the message was not sent; however, the message is sent to everyone in the course not just those who "have not submitted." etc.
• Workaround: None

Mastery Percentage

Master Percentage Not Work as Intended

• System: Canvas
• Problem: The feature should require that a student achieves at least XX% of the questions within the (question) bank correct in order to achieve mastery, however, it currently only depends on whether they mastered the questions individually.

Import Outcomes

'Edit Outcomes' Button Present On Imported Outcomes

• System: Canvas
• Problem: When importing an outcome into a course from the account level, the edit button appears and admins can make changes to an account level outcome inside the course.
• Workaround: None (other than navigating away from the page and back again)
• Status: Under investigation by Canvas Engineers.

Building Multiple Rubrics Outcomes Are Only Applied To First Rubric

• Problem: When creating more than one rubric at a time using the Rubric section, adding Outcomes will only add them to the previous rubric

Page Error Upon Attempting To View Account-Level Outcome's Aligned Item

• Problem: If you have an account-level rubric that has an account-level outcome as a criterion, attempting to view the outcome's aligned item (which should be the rubric) will give you a page error.

Enrollments

Dropped Students Are Still Showing As Being In The Course

• System: Canvas
• Problem: Students who DROP a course are still showing as being in the course (within Canvas) if they were added to a manually-created section prior to DROP. Currently, the DROP/ADD process runs against the registrar sections and updates those, however, it does not run against the manually-created sections that were created through myUFL.
• Workaround: Manually remove the students from the myUFL created sections. If you have large numbers of students or are unsure, please contact Learning Support Services at 352-392-4357 option 3 or e-mail us at learning-support@ufl.edu
• Status: UFIT is working on a fix.

Groups

Ungrouped Student Due To Section Drop

• System: Canvas
• Problem: If a student is enrolled in two different sections within a course and also a member of a group; if they are removed from one of the two sections, the student is also removed from the group.
• Workaround: Until this issue can be resolved, checked the Group memberships frequently to regroup ungrouped Students if you're moving students between sections and/or during periods of ADD/DROP.
• Status: Under investigation by Canvas Engineers.

Quizzes

"You have made changes to the questions in this quiz" Warning Message

• System: Canvas
• Problem: When previewing a Quiz, if the "Keep Editing This Quiz" button is clicked, the message "You have made changes to the questions in this quiz. These changes will not appear for students until you save the quiz." will appear. This message also appears if the "Update Question" button is clicked but the quiz itself has not been saved.
• Workaround: Review the quiz to ensure it is as intended and then save the quiz to clear this warning message by clicking the "Save It Now" button.
• Status: Under investigation by Canvas Engineers.

Auto-Submitted Quiz When Student Is Not Viewing Page Not Populating Score In Grades

• System: Canvas
• Problem: When quizzes that are automatically submitted while the student is not viewing the page, the submission isn't fully created/generated in the SpeedGrader or Gradebook. Grades will reflect a score of "0". The actual grade will not appear until either the student goes back to view their submission, or until it's viewed by the Teacher in the "Moderate Quiz" page.
• Workaround: Students should ensure to click "Submit" for their quizzes, or go back to view their quiz soon after it is auto-submitted. If the Teacher has any indication that a student may have taken the Quiz but it is not showing in the Gradebook, they should go to the Quiz, click on "Moderate This Quiz" on the right, then click the student's name to view the submission.

Quiz Points Showing as 9.99999999999999 instead of 10

• System: Canvas
• Problem: When viewing a quiz, the point value is displayed as 9.99999999999999 instead of 10. Upon editing of the quiz, the point value is displayed as 10. This is a known issue in Canvas that is due to the system not rounding correctly when it totals it up on the quizzes page.
• Workaround: None available. Students will still receive the correct percentage points when they take the quiz. This is a display bug.
• Status: Under investigation by Canvas Engineers.

MP3 Media Files In Quiz Not Converting

• Problem: MP3 files which are imported in batch to a course(such as an imported export file) do not correctly trigger a new conversion of the files in the course right away.

• Problem: When entering an answer into a numeric question, whole numbers generate a decimal point and four zeros when typed into a numerical answers answer field.

Additional time on Quiz

• System: Canvas
• Problem: Professor gives students additional time and it will show for a short period of time below the person's name the following text "gets ** extra minutes on each attempt" but after a certain amount of time the message "gets ** extra minutes on each attempt" gets removed..
• Workaround: The work around is to manually give the student their time one by one. You'll want to give student 1 their extension, save and then refresh the page. Then after refreshing add time for student
• Status: Under investigation by Canvas Engineers.

Android

Unable To Download Canvas App For Nook HD (Android 4.0.4) From PlayStore

• System: Canvas
• Problem: When using a Nook HD (Android 4.0.4) users are unable to download the Canvas app from the Play Store. Users receive an incompatibility error when attempting to download and are unable to install the app. According to the system specifics guide, the OS is compatible. The Nook HD does not have a camera, and the Canvas app requires permission to access a camera within the Android device. This is causing a point of contention.
• Workaround: Use mobile browser or desktop/laptop computer until this issue is resolved.
• Status: Under investigation by Canvas engineers.

Students unable to view content if "Pages" hidden in Navigation

• System: Canvas
• Problem: On certain version of Android, students will get an error message saying "you are not authorized to view this content" if they try to access a Page from within Modules. This occurs only when the "Pages" tool is hiden on the Navigation bar.
• Workaround: Instructor can make "Pages" available on Navigation bar at his/her discretion, or students can use a computer to access the content.
• Status: Fix has been found and is scheduled to be implemented in update on October 31.

Canvas iPhone App: Create an Announcement

• System: Canvas
• Problem: Users are no longer able to create new announcements from within the app. The "horn" is missing from the upper-right corner. Announcements can be replied to (the arrow is in the upper-right corner) but a fresh announcement has to be created from the web browser. Users cannot create a new announcement on the iPhone and iPod.
• Workaround: Use desktop/laptop computer until this issue is resolved.
• Status: Under investigation by Canvas engineers.

Respondus LockDown Browser and Respondus Monitor Settings Visible In Quizzes

• System: Canvas
• Problem: Upon viewing a created Quiz, settings related to Respondus LockDown Browser and Respondus Monitor are visible but cannot be altered.
• Workaround: These settings are a side-effect of the LTI Integration and do not negatively impact Quizzes. Only Instructors, TA's and associated roles can view these settings. These settings are not visible to Students.
• Status: Under investigation by UFIT.

Articulate Storyline Hotspot

• System: Canvas
• Problem: Issue specific to hot spots in Articulate Storyline files. The files that are a mix of selecting radio buttons as answers or hot spots as the answer only work for the radio button questions.
• Workaround: NO WORKAROUND;
• Status: Has been requested, but has not been voted on enough to make it to production.
