Adobe Flash 11.3 update not compatible with Firefox 13
- Problem: The recently released Adobe Flash 11.3 update, in conjunction with RealPlayer, prevents videos and Flash Player content from playing properly in Firefox 13. Users also experienced issues using Adobe Connect with this new update. Adobe has released a patch to this update (11.3.300.262), however some users are still reporting audio distortion and crashes within Firefox.
- Workaround: Adobe has recommended possible workarounds, which can be found here. Adobe also provides instructions for reverting to a previous version of Flash here.
- Status: Under investigation. FF 13 no longer supported.--Jolaine 10:30, 23 January 2013 (EST)

- Workaround: Open each gradebook item in Gradebook 2 and click the box next to “Give ungraded no credit” or Explicitly enter a zero for any student who has no score in a gradebook item.
- Status: Fixed Dec 2013 release.

My Active Sites display issue with multiple rows
- Problem: If the list of course sites at the top of e-Learning wraps to more than 1 row, when you click "My Active Sites" you will notice a minor display issue. This is mainly a cosmetic issue. View a screenshot of this CSS Flaw:
- Workaround: Go to My Workspace -> Preferences and reduce the number of tabs such that only 1 row of course sites are view-able. Or you can use the My Workspace tool to view all of your course sites.
- Status: A patch should be applied before the Fall 2012 term. --Carl33p 16:15, 26 June 2012 (EDT)Resolved.--Jolaine 10:29, 23 January 2013 (EST)

Announcements sorting in My Workspace > Recent Announcements
- Problem: Announcements in My Workspace > Recent Announcements are sorting per course chronologically and not based on all announcements in all courses one has access to.

Unable to Download PDFs in Firefox and Chrome
- Problem: After a recent Adobe update, some PDFs will not open within Firefox and Chrome. This problem happens anywhere on the internet, not just in Sakai.
- Workaround: You can right-click the name of the file and open it on your computer, or you can use Internet Explorer, or you can use this Firefox Plug-in.
- Status: Many people now have the plug-in installed and so this issue is not as common. --Jolaine 10:40, 15 April 2011 (EDT)

- Status: Possible resolution at some point in the Fall semester.
Content Editor Freezes in Internet Explorer 9
- Problem: When insert buttons are clicked in FCKEditor using IE9, the insert window opens but appears blank and frozen. There is no way to close or cancel the window without logging out of Sakai. This occurs in the following options: Insert Link, Insert Flash object, Insert Image, Entity picker , Insert Table, Insert Special Characters, Insert Smiley, Insert Anchor. View screenshot.
- Workaround: Use a different browser when using the rich text editor, for example Firefox or IE 8. Internet Explorer 9 is not a supported browser at this time, so avoid upgrading until this issue is solved. See Instructions for removing IE9 and restoring IE8.
- Status: Resolved in the planned release for August 9, "Ariel." --Jolaine 14:29, 26 August 2011 (EDT)
Unable to See "Exit Student View"
- Problem: The New skin implemented has a minor issue that occurs if you use the "View Site As . . " option. You will not be able to see "Exit Student View" text due to the text being white and the skin being light gray. On some monitors, you may be able to see the text faintly.
- Workaround: Place your mouse pointer over the region where the "Exit Student View" normally appears (top right hand side) and click when the mouse pointer image changes to a hand, or highlight the region so that you will see the "Exit Student View" text. Please see screen shot for additional details.

Assessments Tool Does Not Display Well in IE if all Questions Displayed on One Page
- Problem: If all questions are displayed on a single page they do not load. Assessment does not load at all if using IE 7 or 8 on Windows 7 (Microsoft Vista not tested) works fine on XP.
- Workaround: Keep the default setting that displays one question/page and/or use Firefox.
- Status: Resolved --Rayne 10:09, 23 January 2013
Assessment Pool Questions do not Display in Firefox 11
- Problem: In Firefox 11, when an instructor goes to the Question Pools, opens the pool and clicks on the title of the question, the question text and answer boxes appear empty. When an instructor is trying to view the student submission in an essay question, the answer box appears empty.
- Workaround: Use IE or Chrome browsers. In Firefox 11, you can click the "view full screen" icon and see and edit the question text there. You can also see and edit the text in the HTML code.
- Status: Fixed, with upgrade to Firefox 12. Firefox 11 no longer supported. --Jolaine 10:09, 23 January 2013 (EST)
LockDown Browser issues in Assessments
- Problem: We have noticed some problematic behavior in Assessments when used with Respondus LockDown Browser. In Assessments, if the "force completion" option is enabled, students will be locked out from the quiz entirely. In Assessments, there is no way to currently force completion of quizzes.
- Workaround: In Assessments, we encourage you not to enable the "force completion" option. This option is currently not functional.
- Status: Resolved. --Rayne 18 December 2012 (EDT)
Assessments with .jpg images will not import from one course to another
- Problem: Assessments with .jpg images in them will generate a "bug error" message if you try to import them from one course to another. The assessment functions as expected in the original course, but cannot be imported.
- Workaround: Replace the .jpg images with .png or .gif prior to importing the assessment.
- Status: Under Investigation. --Jolaine 11:55, 1 September 2011 (EDT)
Assignments
Turnitin Report Not Always Generated
- Problem: Some Turnitin reports are not generated.
- Workaround: The Turnitin company has verified that a MS Word document that has been saved in a different version will not generate a report. For example: a student begins a paper on a laptop computer that is running MS Word 2007, but finishes the paper on a machine that is running MS Word 2010. This paper will not generate a Turnitin report unless the student saves the final version as a MS Word 2007 document.
Many of the files that do not get a report have naming convention issues. Make sure students know that their files should not have spaces in the name and should only have one extension. Do not use characters in the file name other than letters, numbers, - or _. Sometimes the file actually does get submitted to Turnitin, but does not generate a report icon. To see if there is a report there, click on any other student's Turnitin report and at the top of that screen you will see a link that says "Paper # of #." Click that link. You will see a drop-down of all reports. See if the student's report is in the list.
- Status: Under investigation. Resolved, per Narasi. --Jolaine 10:56, 23 January 2013 (EST)
Some Grades Not Released When Instructor Clicks "Return to Student."
- Problem: On occasion, the "Return to Student" option does not release the grade to the students. The Instructor's work is saved, but the grade is not released.
- Workaround: On the Submissions page, check the box beside the name of the student and click Release Grades at the upper right corner of the screen.
- Status: Under investigation. This has not been seen since prior to Fall 2012 semester. --Jolaine 10:50, 23 January 2013 (EST)
Resubmission Date Overrides Accept Until Date
- Problem: When the Resubmission Date falls before the Accept Until Date, and an instructor opens, grades or saves any student submissions, the Resubmission Date overrides the Accept Until date. This disables all other students in the course from submitting to the assignment, even though the Accept Until date occurs in the future.
- Workaround: Instructors wanting to use the resubmission option should choose a Resubmission date that is either the same as the Accept Until Date or occurs in the future. If they want to choose a Resubmission date that falls before the Accept Until Date, they should not open any student submissions until the Accept Until Date has passed. The other option is to not allow resubmissions in the Assignment settings and to manually allow students to resubmit during the grading process.
- Status: Resolved with 1.4.3. --Rayne 18 December October 2012 (EDT)
Instructor Comments in the Assignments Shows HTML Tags
- Problem: When a grader leaves comments for the student in the "comments" box, the student sees HTML coding in the text.
- Workaround: If the student submission was made using the "inline" submission box, the instructor can post comments by putting her/his comments in { {double curly brackets } }. The instructor comments appear in red to the student. If the student has submitted a Word document, download the file and make your comments by using "track changes" in Word. Add the edited submission as your feedback.
- Status: Resolved.--Jolaine 11:22, 15 April 2011 (EDT)
Turnitin integration with Assignments currently not working
- Problem: The Turnitin option in Assignments is not working. No Turnitin reports are generated.
- Workaround: You may submit papers directly to Turnitin. If you do not have an account with the Turnitin.com site please fill in the |form. Once you have your Turnitin account, you may bulk upload all your assignment submissions to Turnitin:
- In the Assignment list, click Grade
- Click Download All in the upper right corner of the screen
- Check "Only Student submission attachment(s)
- Click Download
- Save file to your computer
- Login to Turnitin and add a class if you haven't already done so
- Click the title of the class
- Click "More actions" dropdown menu and choose "Submit paper"
- Choose "zip file upload" for the submission method
- Browse for zip file you downloaded from e-Learning
- Click Upload
- Click Submit
- Status: Under investigation.--Narasi 12:53, 23 August 2011 (EDT)
Blog
Blog Permissions Default is That Students Can Not Create a New Blog
- Problem: By default, Blogs permissions are set so that students cannot create a new blog.
- Workaround: Click Permissions and under the "create" column, check the box beside Student (and CE Student and Auditor if you have participants with those roles).
- Status: Resolved, but older courses may still see the problem. New courses created from Summer 2011 on should not exhibit the problem.--Jolaine 10:47, 15 April 2011 (EDT)
Chat Room
Chat Room users can't chat in real time
- Problem: In the Chat Room tool, most users can't chat with one another in real time. Messages from other users don't appear until a user refreshes the chat window.
- Workaround: Most Chat Room users must refresh their browser in order to view new posts made by other participants. New posts do not appear until the user refreshes.
- Status: Resolved
--Rayne 21 March 2013 (EST)
Discussions
Can't embed videos in forums and topics
- Problem: Instructors can't embed videos in either topics or forums. Videos can only be embedded at the thread level.
- Workaround: Embed videos at the thread level, or link to videos in forums and topics.
- Status: Resolved with 2.9/1.5 build.
--Rayne 6 May 2013 (EDT)
Add Attachment to Forum or Topic Error
- Problem: Instructors will get an error if they attempt to Add an Attachment to a Forum or Topic in the Discussions tool. By default, students do not have permissions to Create/Edit Forums or Topics. There is not a problem when adding attachments to a thread or reply.
- Workaround: Upload the file to the Resources and create a link to it in the Description area for the Forum or Topic.
- Status: Resolved with 1.4.3.
--Rayne 18 December 2012 (EDT)
Can't open Attachments in Discussions
- Problem: If someone adds a file attachment to a Mail or Discussions post, the file will not open if there are spaces in the file name.
- Workaround: Do not attach a document with a space in the file name. Use _ or - instead of spaces. One may also replace the "+" sign in the URL where the space is with a "%20" and this will display the page.
- Status: Resolved in Bambi, June 21, 2011 --Jolaine 08:26, 21 June 2011 (EDT)
Users Get Email When New Post is Made to Discussions
- Problem: The default setting in Discussions is that users get an email notification every time a post is made to a Discussion topic that the user has posted to in the past. This isn't actually a "bug," as this is the common default on discussion board and blogs on the internet, but in large classes the quantity of emails is problematic.
- Workaround: Go to Discussions and click on Watch at the top of the screen. Change your preference to "Do not send notification."
- Status: Default settings has been changed. Resolved. --Jolaine 11:25, 15 April 2011 (EDT)
Gradebook and/or Gradebook 2
UFID and Section Columns Must be Removed Prior to File Import
- Problem: An update was recently made to the system that adds the UFID column and the Section number column to the file when Gradebook 2 is downloaded. This was done to provide the information for grade submission to Grade-A-Gator. The problem occurs if you try to import that file back into Gradebook 2. The imported file will convert the UFID to the student name and the import will fail.
- Workaround: Delete the UFID column and the Section column before importing the file.
- Status: This has been resolved for Gradebook 2 with the 2.9 upgrade. UFID and section can now be included in Gradebook 2 imports. --Rayne 1 May 2013 (EDT)
Terminology Incorrect When Using the "Grade Using Percentage" in Gradebook 2
- Problem: In Gradebook 2, if you set the "Grade Using:" option to "Percentage," the creation of Gradebook Items (columns) still asks for "points" when it should say "Percentage of total grade."
- Workaround" The tool actually functions the way it should, it is just the terminology that is off. When grading by percentages all columns are worth 100 points. When you are creating a new column, in the field where it asks you to enter the "Points," enter the "Percentage of total grade."
- Status: Under investigation. This is a design of Gradebook 2 that we can't control. It is well-documented in the tutorial.--Jolaine 11:15, 23 January 2013 (EST)
Extra Credit issue when using No Categories in Gradebook 2
- Problem: In Gradebook 2, when you are using no categories, you are able to edit only a single item as extra credit. If you attempt to edit another item, the extra credit option is disabled. You can still add new items as extra credit, however you can't edit them to remove the extra credit option once this setting has been applied.
- Workaround: The workaround is to use Categories in Gradebook 2 if you need multiple extra credit items.
- Status: Resolved with 1.4.3. --Rayne 18 December 2012 (EDT)
Gradebook 2 "Drop Lowest Score(s)" Doesn't Display Properly
- Problem: In Gradebook 2, when dropping the lowest score(s) in a category, zeros that are added by checking the "Give Ungraded No Credit" box are not shown as "dropped." The calculations are accurate, but the zero is not shown in red with a strike through.
- Workaround: Manually insert a 0 for the student
- Status: Under Investigation.
Gradebook Won't Export if Students are Enrolled Who are Not Associated With Roster
- Problem: If you have any students enrolled in your course who are not associated with a roster, for example a CE Student, Student or Auditor that you added manually rather than through the Registrar, Gradebook 2 can not be exported to a .csv or Excel file.
- Workaround: Make the person(s) inactive (Site Info and change the "Active" status to "Inactive" using the drop-down menu beside the person(s) name and click Update at the bottom of the list)and download Gradebook 2. Change the person(s) back to "active" status once the download is complete. If you make the person inactive, his or her postings, grades, submissions, etc., will disappear, but will reappear when the person is made active again. If you have a non-Registrar course where all students are manually enrolled and you need to export to a file, you will need to use Gradebook until this problem with Gradebook 2 is corrected.
- Status: Under investigation.
View Student by Section Does Not Show All Students
- Problem: If you View Students by Section in Gradebook or Gradebook2, in some cases you may not see all the students listed here
- Workaround:
- Go to Site Info and change your role from Instructor to Facilitator using the drop down. Click Update Participants at the bottom of the page.
- Go to Edit Class Rosters and check the "remove" box beside each roster. Click Update.
- Go back to Edit Class Rosters and click Add Rosters. You will see the sections to which you have access listed below. Click Select Anyway at the right side of the screen beside each section that you wish to associate to this site. Follow the prompts to finish the process.
- Go back to Site Info and Change your role from Facilitator to Instructor
- Status: Resolved on Aug 19th 2011,

Automatic Email from Add Participant not working
- Problem: The option to Send an Email, when Adding a Participant to the course site, does not work correctly. The email does not clearly state that the person has been added to a course in e-Learning.
- Workaround: Send a mail message to the user with the Mail tool after adding the user to the course site.
- Status: Resolved with upgrade to 2.9 --Rayne 8 May 2013 (EDT)
Syllabus
Syllabus Redirect Does Not Work Consistently
- Problem: The Syllabus tool offers the option to "redirect" which lets you enter the url of a file in Resources or on the web. This option works fine as along as the file you are pointing to is an HTML file. But pointing to a PDF or MSWord file or other type of static text file doesn't always work.
- Workaround: Use "create" option instead of "redirect" option or if you want to use "redirect," point to an HTML file.
- Status: Under investigation. No longer seeing this issue. --Jolaine 11:25, 23 January 2013 (EST)
Tests & Quizzes
T&Q Inputs "Null" in Feedback When Using Markup Text (Cut and Paste from Text Document)
- Problem: If you cut and paste from a text document to create the assessment, the word "null" will be inserted into all the feedback boxes. The word "null" does not appear to students if feedback is enabled, so this isn't technically a "bug."
- Workaround: None needed
- Status: Resolved with 2.9 upgrade. --Rayne 1 May 2013 (EDT)
Tests and Quizzes Export Submissions
- Problem: Under certain circumstances, test submissions cannot be exported, this is typically seen when we have a large number of submissions (200 or more), when delivered to a select group of individuals, or when random questions are used for delivering the exam.
- Workaround: Currently there is no workaround.
- Status: Resolved with 2.9 upgrade. --Rayne 1 May 2013 (EDT)
Scores for Quizzes Delivered to Groups Don't Display in T&Q
- Problem: Instructors cannot view the scores for any quizzes delivered to groups in Tests & Quizzes.
- Workaround: Currently there is no workaround for this issue and no way to view the scores when delivered to groups, but we are hoping to find a resolution soon. We encourage instructors to transition to Assessments in the interim. Directions for doing so can be found here. In Assessments, instructors can set up a quiz with a password to deliver to select groups. If you need assistance with this process, please call us at (352) 392-HELP.
- Status: Resolved with 2.9. --Rayne 1 May 2013 (EDT)
Audio Recording Questions not Working
- Problem: The "Audio Recording" type question does not work. The Audio Recorder will not begin recording.
- Workaround: The only workaround available at this time is to require students to create an audio file on their computer and upload it to a "File Upload" type question. This is only practical if you know students have audio recording software.
- Status: This has been resolved with the 2.9 upgrade
--Rayne 1 May 2013 (EDT)
Facilitators do not See Published Assessments in T&Q (Rare)
- Problem: Someone with the Facilitator role may not see the list of published assessments in Tests & Quizzes.
- Workaround: Give the user a different role, such as Instructor or Teaching Assistant.
- Status: This problem has been resolved for current users, but there are still some courses created on older versions that display this problem. As new courses are created, this problem should disappear.--Jolaine 11:29, 23 January 2013 (EST)
T&Q Table of Contents Allows Students to See Their Scores
- Problem: If instructors set up a test to show the Table of Contents, and the "students question and part scores" option is set under feedback (even if "No feedback will be displayed to the student" is chosen), students can see their scores for each question and so can deduce whether or not they got it right and can change their answers while they are taking the test.
- Workaround: Change Feedback by unchecking "students question and part scores." This is now the default setting for all tests. If you do want them to see this part of the feedback after submissions are in, you can go back and check the box later.
- Status: Resolved
--Jolaine 10:19, 7 March 2011 (EST)
"Import" Function in Tests & Quizzes can Corrupt Username
- Problem: In Tests & Quizzes, the "Import" function does not work and can even cause a corrupted username if attempted. The corrupted username could prohibit the user from accessing the Tests & Quizzes tool.
- Workaround: Either create questions one-at-a-time, or cut and paste from a properly formatted text document using the "Create using markup text" option. If you have trouble accessing any aspect of Tests & Quizzes, your username could be corrupted. Contact LSS at (352) 392-4357 option 3, or write learning-support@ufl.edu.
- Status: In the latest update, the Import button was removed to resolved this problem.
Some Websites not loading in iFrames
- Problem: If one attempts to setup a link to a Website in their e-learning course for ex htps://google.com this would not display. As several sites do not like to load in an iFrame
- Workaround: Please create an HTML page in Resources with the URL's you wish to make available for your students, and allow them to launch in a new window. Please contact LSS staff at 392-4357 option 3 if you need additional assistance with this.
